The Nice n Easy/New York-New York Summer Soccer Series, a 6 weekend summer tournament series, provides players and fans a relaxing rural setting in close proximity to Syracuse, Binghamton, Utica, Rochester, Albany, the Hudson Valley and New York City. NY/NY is rapidly becoming New York State's most important youth soccer event. The David L. Emerson Soccer Farm located near Norwich-Oxford/Chenango County, New York is conveniently situated on NYS-Route #12; "in the Southern Hills of New York State"; 40 minutes north of Binghamton, 1hr south of Syracuse; and only 40 minutes from both Soccer and Baseball Halls' of Fame. NY/NY is sponsored by Nice n Easy Grocery Shoppes, a regionally based convenience store chain..

In 2005, the Woodbridge "Strikers" headed the field over this Mother's Day Weekend in the Boys U17/18 premier bracket. Two years ago, this same Strikers' team won the U15B Canadian National Championship. The U17/18 Boys bracket also included the CNY Siege-Homer, NY; the Syracuse Blitz-Liverpool, NY; East Greenbush-Castleton, NY; Arsenal Academy–Marcellus, NY and TC United-Ithaca, NY. Despite the Strikers high billing, other teams in the field were eager to compete and challenge the favored team; and they did.

Twelve teams from all across New York State took part in the U14/15 boys' and six U14 girls' brackets. The Chenango Chargers U14/15 boy's team and the Lady Chargers U14 girl's team held the home field advantage. The U14/15 Boys bracket also included Coliseum Milan-Barneveld, NY; the Horseheads Dynamo-Horseheads, NY; Salt City Stampede-Liverpool, NY; Dansville Mustangs–Dansville, NY and the Cooper City Titans-Rome, NY. Teams are coming in from BC United [Binghamton area], TC United [Ithaca], the East Hudson SC. Fans were treated to some of the very best youth soccer ever played at the Emerson Soccer Farm. The Boys Premier bracket featured the Clifton Park"Vortex" in a 1-0 championship victory over the East Hudson ODP Premier. East Hudson had beaten the Vortex 1-0 in a preliminary round match. There were exciting scoring chances created throughout both matches with players demonstrating excellent touch on the ball and wonderful combination passes. Fans in attendance were highly entertained by the competition. NY/NY Tournament Director, Pete Moore noted, "both teams showed a maturity in play that isn't seen too often at this age level."

Norwich native and Voorhesville HS boys head soccer coach, Bob Crandal coached the Vortex. George Vizvary, internationally recognized soccer clinician and long time men's head soccer coach at Ulster Community College coached East Hudson. Crandal commented that "the Emerson Soccer Farm was a soccer dream in the making." Vizvary said; "it's an honor to be able to play on such wonderful fields."

Three girls' brackets and 1 boys' division closed out play in the final weekend of tournament play. The girls competition took place in Under 11, Under 12 and Under 13 brackets, while the boys teams were grouped in an Under 11 bracket. "We got to see some top quality play this weekend from all of the teams," noted Julian Drelich, a member of the Chenango Soccer Club Board. He continued, "you can see that these young players are growing up with the sport and you can see it in their touch on the ball, how they read the game, team speed and more; they can play!"

East Hudson Select took the U 11 Girls bracket with a 4-0 championship win over the Deep Run "Charge" from the Philadelphia, PA area. Chenango Colone Associates has also been working with the Chenango "Chargers" Soccer Club [CSC] towards the development of the "David L. Emerson Soccer Farm in Oxford/Chenango County, New York. When complete, the 3 field-21 acre soccer park will have a total capital cost projected to exceed $750,000. The Emerson Soccer Farm is located 5 miles south of Norwich on NYS Route #12 in the Town of Oxford in Chenango County, NY.

Phase #1 was completed in 2001. The soccer farm now features a 500'x500' playing surface; the very best soccer surfaces anywhere! It is called the quad-use soccer field system. It provides a multi directional field alignment option, allowing the flexibility to stripe two regulation soccer fields either in a north/south or east/west orientation. It maximizes the use of available space, play-ability and turf maintenance.

The CSC is now advancing Phase #2 in sequence, starting this year with restoration of an old barn on site into a central service and storage facility. The barn, when fully restored will become “the hub,” the headquarters center at the Emerson Soccer Farm and will contain a food concession area with outside deck, restrooms, equipment storage area and more.

The second part of Phase #2 is the construction of the principal terraced soccer field to showcase championship matches and special events. Field construction should be completed in 2006.

As project/program management consultant, Colone Associates has offered advice and guidance to the CSC beginning in the earliest planning phase that included site selection, while advancing an exciting site plan concept. Colone Associates has also supported the "Chargers" efforts in the area of land use and environmental review, grant writing and more.

Colone Associates, in its consultant capacity, created and coordinates special soccer programs to include the Nice n Easy-NY/NY Summer Youth Soccer Series and the collegiate soccer preview pre season exhibition matches. They also provide input on issues ranging from programming of CSC in-house activities and events, facility use, monitoring a field maintenance plan, securing event and facility sponsorships, organizational leadership building, and others.
